Caracas, July 24, 2025 – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reaffirmed his country’s commitment to peace amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict during an exclusive interview marking teleSUR’s 20th anniversary.

The President underscored the importance of global political will to reach a just and dignified resolution, appealing for international support to end hostilities and avoid further human suffering.

President Maduro provided a detailed historical overview, stressing the intertwined origins of Russia and Ukraine and the manipulation of Ukrainian sovereignty following the USSR’s dissolution.

He recalled how Western powers, particularly US administrations since the early 1990s, increasingly intervened to steer Ukraine away from Russia’s orbit, transforming it into a frontline against Russian interests.

The President strongly criticized the 2014 coup against a dialogue-seeking Ukrainian president, labeling it orchestrated under the Obama administration with Western European complicity. He highlighted the imposition of extremist elements within Ukraine’s government, drawing connections to “Nazi currents” linked to historical fascist collaborators during World War II.
